“Even the sky in Kyoto is crying” ⊟

Yuji Naka (Sonic the Hedgehog, Nights) posted the above photo and statement from the funeral procession for Satoru Iwata, Nintendo’s beloved CEO and president who passed away at the age of 55 a week ago. Via Nemuimon.

Thousands attended his funeral services, reports the Wall Street Journal:

“The Kyoto-based company held two days of funeral services for Mr. Iwata according to Japanese custom. At a temple, people wearing black and carrying umbrellas because of a nearby typhoon lined up to pass his coffin. Some even carried a Nintendo 3DS handheld game machine. … Nintendo said more than 2,600 people attended in the first day, and 1,500 came on the second day.”

Genyo Takeda, general manager for Nintendo’s hardware division, who is also serving as a representative director for the company along with Shigeru Miyamoto, delivered a hopeful eulogy yesterday. Takeda said that he and Miyamoto would strive to complete the work that the late president started, vowing that they would help grow the seeds Iwata planted into flowers “that will make people around the world smile.”
