Lemme start with a few names here, alright?

MictheMicrophone, SassyJessy, ChocolatePony, SamRoseMod, and you can throw Echoflyre in there as well. Now, these people share a common denominator. Well a couple actually. I’ll give you a second to figure what those denominators are.

You got it yet?

Alright, if you don’t, then I’ll tell ya. These people are, for the most part, well-known artists in the brony community, and they have all, at some point, asked for donations for one reason or another. And the reason they asked, or begged, depending on your side of the argument, for those donations was because they were in financial distress. They either lost their jobs, had trouble with their jobs, couldn’t get a job, there was a cheapskate holding them back, or they couldn’t afford to keep the roof over their heads.

Bottom line, they needed a necessity and resources, that were far beyond their reach, and thanks to their hundreds of fans, they were able to get back onto their feet.

Those were good causes. They needed the money, and I personally believe they, in a minor sense, earned that money.

Now, let’s move on to people like Ahmedz, Eilemonty, Firenze, and the like. They too share a common denominator. They are, much like before, popular artists in the brony subculture, and they too have asked for donations. However, unlike those other people I mentioned, they don’t seem to be in need of the money. They don’t seem to be under any kind of financial issue, at least as far as I know, I could be wrong on this, and if they are, then their reasons for the so called “Bronycon Funds” are pretty shallow.

Now, I’d like to stress something before I move on; I don’t hate these people, I don’t wish any misfortune upon their lives, they seem nice and likable, and ya know what, it’s their prerogative, okay? I don’t agree with it, but I’m not going to try and stop them, nor those who will pay for their plane tickets. It’s not in my right.

But with that said, I still hold my right to argue and give my two-cents on the issue, and my two cents is that these people do not need donations. At least not for something as frivolous as a convention where you sell art, get autographs, meet friends, and compare cosplay.

It’s not a necessity, not at all like Mic or Jessy’s roofs which were almost taken away from them.

And again, if they are in need of financial help, then why make the main point of the fundraiser to go to Bronycon? Shouldn’t the clothes on your back, the food in your fridge, and the ever popular roof be a bit more important than going over to a different state or country just to meet people you could easily chat with on Skype? Or get to when you have the time? I dunno, maybe it’s just me, who knows, right?

Alright, to be fair, maybe they can have both. They can raise money for their homes and to go to Bronycon. Seems alright, to me, I’ve no problem with that.

But seriously, when it comes to priorities, the least of your worries should be when you get to see your fans, or you trying to play John Cena and be at every convention for the sake of sightseeing and such.

I don’t hate you guys, hell, I don’t even dislike you, okay? i just think that there are better things to worry about, and honestly, some silly gathering just isn’t one of them.

Also, lemme quote a friend of mine, whom I’ll leave anonymous since I don’t want them to be bothered or flamed if this confession gets a lot of attention;

“If they asked without offering anything in return then that is rude and unpolite.

Also as a personal note, That kind of deal like ‘Going to bronycon’ requires to be greatly ahead of time planning to prepare everything. If you tell your fans that you ‘Want to go to bronycon’ with little time in advance then that artist might as well not have inquired it to his/her fans in the first place.

There are more artist in need of the funds for food or rent and they are being neglected by those wanting to go to BronyCon 2013.”

Read it, drink it in, keep it to mind. Just saying.

Have a good weekend everyone in Tumblrland.

I’ll admit that i do agree with this. I see the fandom use the whole “GOIN’ TO BROWNIECON GAIZ, GIVE ME MONEY". It really bothers me because Tumblrpon uses that as a way to sucker in people to give them money and fans would give it to them in a heartbeat. While reading this post, I originally felt guilty of making a post on my art blog asking for funds for Florida Supercon about at least a week or two ago.

But at the same time, i never asked for money and that’s it. I was offering to draw people’s OCs (Anime or Pony) to make up some money for myself to take with me to FSC. So i wasn’t really begging my ass off for money and don’t give anything to anybody in return. I would be drawing stuff for people in return of the commission money they would give me.

Can’t really speak for the others, but I will speak for myself

I must admit. Putting up the donations thing for Bronycon was the dumbest and most regretful things I’ve ever done in recent years. I still feel incredibly guilty about it, especially considering the fact that there are people in the Tumblrpon community are in need of money, and for the most part, offer aomething in return (commissions and art), while I just sat on my fat butt and was all “plz gimme money cause I was almost broke last year weh” (even though I did have commissions up, but I digress).

I basically panicked after I’ve done the calculations, and didn’t want to end up in the same situation as I did last year. What I didn’t expect to happen was me getting a promotion at work 3 months after posting the donations thing, which assured me that I wasn’t gonna end up in the same state as I did last year, and that’s when the regret hit me right in the balls.

I begged for money (e-begged) when in the end, I never needed it (but the amount I got did help cut the cost of the flight, and I can’t thank everyone enough). I never offered anything in return, and I ended up misusing my “”“popularity”“” for my own personal reasons.

I’ve always seen myself as an undeserving greedy bastard, and for that, I am truly sorry. It should’ve never happened in the first place.
